Abstract

Defense mechanisms, hypnotic trance, and complex are mental phenomena associated with the Unconscious. Being under the control of the Ego, they can be hypothesized to have certain relationships in terms of their manifestation. The author found from the present experiment that hypnotic transferences are well induced in subjects who use acting-out and regression as defense mechanisms, and are difficult to induce in those who use repression and anticipation. The more frequently the subjects use repression, the less they reveal complex signs from the Korean version of the Word Association Test (WAT); MMPI had correlation with some defense mechanisms, but not with HIP or WAT.
